The Pastor’s Quill

For the next few weeks (Sundays and Wednesdays) I’m going to be sharing TREACHING (teaching and preaching) on THE #BLESSEDlife. Note I’ll be using the hashtag #BLESSEDlife in the messages and on social media (I’d like to ask you to do the same in your social media ministries). I’ll be dealing with this topic from a BIBLICAL perspective and not man-made concepts; the latter of which becomes unbalanced and manifests in extremism (some believing we are not holy unless we are broke and impoverished and some believing we are not spiritual enough if we are not rich).

What is the #BLESSEDlife? Where did the #BLESSEDlife originate? How does one gain access into this #BLESSEDlife? What does the #BLESSEDlife look like? What should we, as Christians, expect in the #BLESSEDlife? These are pertinent questions that will be answered from the WORD of GOD and not by our vain traditions of man.

I really feel my spirit being urged to deal with the ORIGIN of the #BLESSEDlife. The origin will reveal the authoritative Source and we must grasp that in our understanding. The Source is the foundation. The Source is the anchor. Did you notice I capitalized the “S” in every use of the word “Source”? I did so very intentionally for our Source is a person: GOD!

There is no greater place to find the origin than to go all the way back to the beginning. Note these verses in Genesis 1:26-28, NKJV.

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ (v27) So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (v28) Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’”

Note that highlighted portion. The very FIRST thing God did for man (mankind: Adam and Eve) was to BLESS him!!!! Here’s the funny thing: not many people will use that as a launching point for mankind’s purpose. I perused numerous commentaries on Genesis 1:28 and not one dealt with the fact that God BLESSED Adam and Eve. Every single one jumped to the “be fruitful and multiply” portion. However, I see the first climactic interaction between God and man (post-creation) is God blessed him. God initiated the #BLESSEDlife!

All through scripture we find where God continued to BLESS people. Of course, it couldn’t be any less. God is immutable (He doesn’t change). Therefore, it is His nature to bless His people. Here is an interesting thing I found. The Bible has a recurring phrase, “Blessed is the man….” For example, Psalms 84:5 begins with these words, “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You….” I found this phrase is in the King James Version thirteen times. Then I pondered the number “13”. 6+7=13, correct? The number “6” is the biblical number for MAN (God created him on the sixth day). The number “7” is the number for COMPLETION (God finished creation and rested on the 7th day – completing the first week). However, there is another concept of COMPLETION and that is the finished work of Jesus on the cross. His final words on the cross were, “It is finished!” Jesus redeemed us upon the cross; purchasing mankind from sin and death and restoring man to his proper place in God and God’s plan. The transaction of our redemption was completed on the cross. The cross is the RESET point for humanity where God redeemed us to our original purpose. If we take the number 6 (man) and put it together with the number 7 (Jesus’ completed work on the cross) we have 13 (the number of times the Word of God declares, “Blessed is the man…”). Man + the Cross = the #BLESSEDlife!

God’s design and desire is for us to live the #BLESSEDlife! I intend to do just that and enlighten as many people as I can in following me. Join me and let’s see how BIG God is.
