What do you think of when you here the words Witchcraft or Wicca? Probably you think of a fantasy book or Transylvania. If you are a teenager in today’s society, you may very well think of a classmate or friend.
Witchcraft in America is picking up steam, “it is to the point that it could be the third largest religion in America by 2012. (according to an article on Generation Hex)
What amazes me is that I could speak to youth groups or college groups and say, “How many of you know someone involved in Wicca or witchcraft or have participated yourself at some point, perhaps? Raise your hand.” Most of the people do. If I go to a church, and I ask the people in the church or pastors or church staff how many of them know someone involved in Wicca or witchcraft, very few even know what it is. So, there is this huge awareness issue. (Dillon Burroughs)
I read an article this morning by Sarah Jennings (www.crosswalk.com) in which she interviewed Dillon Burroughs and Marla Alupoaicei, the authors of Generation Hex: What Christians Should Know About Witchcraft.
This book deals with a topic that most churches don’t have a firm grip on. From reading this article I gather that book answers questions like: How popular is it? How does someone get involved? How do I know if my kid is involved? What signs do I look for?
And before we start labeling Harry Potter as the instigator in all of this, understand that the fascination with Harry Potter and anything else like it is a symptom of a greater problem. Yes, Harry Potter is a bad thing, but not the end-all be-all in the witchcraft genre. Harry Potter is a problem because it targets little kids and that is just dangerous.
Check out this website. Read the interview and see if this book might be something valuable to you.
