I AM A SERVANT

By Tim Hodge

The key verse of the Gospel of Mark is: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (10:45, NKJV). If you have a good, old red lettered edition of the Bible you will find that Mark 10:45 is written in red; meaning Jesus was the One making the statement.

If we are truly going to epitomize the Christian life then we too must carry the title of SERVANT. People don’t really care how much scripture we can quote or how much doctrine we know (though those things are important in the Christian walk). What stands out in the eyes of people is the witness of SERVING OTHERS.

Maybe we should make it a discipline to evaluate our week on a regular basis. Instead of gauging ourselves by accomplishments, accolades, and money made, we should look back over the past days and ask ourselves, “How well did I serve those around me?” “What did I do that expended myself for the sake of others?” “Did I go out of my way to help someone in some way that I will never get credit for?” “How can I create ways to serve?” I guarantee you this, God is taking note. Me, I AM A SERVANT!
