Help Is On The Way!

John 14:16 (NKJV)
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever….”
I’m grateful to God that He has given me the ability to discern His voice. Mind you, that is nothing allotted to just privileged people. Every person has the ability to ‘HEAR’ God, but not everyone recognizes His voice. The truth be known, God is constantly talking. In fact, He is rather chatty. We have to grow to the place of being able to discern His voice apart from our own thoughts because when God speaks into someone’s heart it will seem like a random thought. I certainly have room to grow in hearing Him all the time.
The last couple of days was one of those periods when it wasn’t hard to hear the voice of God because He kept saying these words: “Help is on the way.”
Several weeks ago I poised myself at my computer to write an article for the bulletin, but I was having some serious writer’s block. Inspiration was void and perspiration was valid. After a few hours of pecking away on the keyboard I picked up my phone and was texting my wife. She asked me if I was about finished. Finished? I had started four different articles on four different targets and none of those were floating my boat as being what was needed. So, I did the manly thing. I asked my wife for HELP! She responded, “Why don’t you write something on ‘overcoming’ because it seems a lot of people are going through some major struggles right now.”
Struggles. Wouldn’t life be grand without so many of those things? John 16:33 records the words of Jesus, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (NKJV). Well, we can’t say He didn’t warn us! Struggles and tribulation are synonymous. I’m just relieved He added that last phrase: “…but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” That is where we find our PEACE in Him.
When we find ourselves facing issues in life, it is a great consolation to the child of God that we do NOT face them ALONE! He is large and in charge. He has a plan for every situation we face. He’s not scrounging around in heaven having emergency meetings because He missed something. He’s got it, folks. He’s got you. He’s got me. Whatever you and I are facing He has ‘it’ too. It’s all under sovereign control.
I don’t know about you, but I have to be reminded of that sometimes. He is in control. I know I’m the pastor (the ‘preacher’ to you old-school folks). I know I’m fifty one years-old and I’ve been walking this walk of faith almost thirty three years. I know I’ve spent countless thousands of hours studying the Bible and reading books (not for sermons, but to make TIM better). Still… there are times I need HELP that flesh and blood can’t give me. That is why Jesus said the Holy Spirit would be a HELPER. At times, though, we have to wait on the Helper’s timing. That becomes the difficult thing: waiting!
Sometimes He may even speak to remind us: “Help is on the way.”
I can almost imagine God speaking to each of us: “Hold on. Wait. I know you’re tired. I know you’re struggling. I see you. Just hold on. Wait! I’m working this out for YOUR good. Did I say ‘wait’ yet?”
So, let me encourage you with these words today: “Help is on the way!” As the old song says, “I’ve come too far to turn back now.” Yes, HELP IS ON THE WAY!
