The Pastor’s Quill

Overcomers! That’s the ultimate picture God has in mind for His children and He will extend all the power, grace, and mercy of Heaven to make that a reality. This world brings its own share of tribulation to the saved and the unsaved alike. However, the child of God has a source of consolation in the scriptures that comes from Jesus Christ when He said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NKJV). The scripture in Romans chapter eight gives a slate of hardships that humanity may face, but we as the children of God have this promise as found in verse 37: “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

How dare we even harbor any thoughts of God giving us the incredible price of His own Son on the cross and then skimp out on anything post-salvation? In fact, the scripture speaks of the total opposite: “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things” (Romans 8:32, NIV)? The determination of a sovereign God to save us is only surpassed by the determination of that same sovereign God to KEEP us!

Let there be no doubt about this: It is God’s intention that we be triumphant in life. Christians are to be advertisement for the Kingdom life; walking, talking, interactive billboards of His grace being shown to mankind. 2 Corinthians 2:14, states, “But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Him everywhere” (NIV). Look at the power of this verse for a moment. He leads us who were once captive in a great liberation parade to celebrate the freedom and victory He gives us. BUT… it doesn’t stop there. It goes on to say He “…uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Him everywhere.” We are God’s diffusers.

Certain people in our office staff have banned me from burning candles in my office. There were times I’d turn the lights off and sit in a candle-lit room, have worship music playing, enjoying the aroma of the scented candles, and I’d pray. However, there may have been a time or two that I forgot to put out the candles (written facetiously). So, some folks invested in some of the plug-in Scentsy deals. Between Scentsy and Essential Oil diffusers there is a whole new market for people releasing aromas that are conducive to health and productivity. Studies have shown this to be true. A company in China released the scent of lavender into their air conditioning system and saw an increased productivity of 30%. It is proven aroma can change the atmosphere.

God wants our witness to be such that it gives off the aroma of hope, love, faith, salvation, and everything that the overcoming gospel of Jesus Christ renders to lost mankind who will accept Him. That is why we can boldly declare, “In Jesus’ name we will do everything not somehow, but TRIUMPHANTLY!” When we live this out loud – when we put flesh to the words – it becomes that sweet aroma of Jesus to the hurting, the lost, the sighing, the crying, and dying humanity.

I fully expect to be successful in everything I put my hands to! Deuteronomy 28:8 proves this, “The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you” (NIV). Furthermore, Psalms 1:2,3 dictates the blessings that will be upon the person who delights in the Lord and in His Word. Verse three ends with these words: “…And whatever he does shall prosper” (NKJV).
