The GOOD Fight Isn’t Just Your Fight!

1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV)
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

2 Thessalonians 3:16 (NKJV)
“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.”

John 16:33 (NKJV)
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

The Christian life is an interesting life. I would dare call it an adventure! If your Christian life is boring you may be on the wrong track. There are thrills and sometimes it’s just a straight-out THRILLER! It’s almost like our lives are thrown into the mixing bowl of genre and there is comedy, suspense, action, drama, horror; well, a bit of everything. In the midst of it all, we can say, “I know whom I have believed and that HE is able to keep me until THAT day!” That “day” is the day we see Him face-to-face and it will be worth it all.

For several weeks on Wednesday nights during our “LIFE-LINK CLASSES” (where we share LIFE not just INFORMATION) we have been studying the topic of SPIRITUAL WARFARE. 1 Timothy 6:12 (listed above) addresses the “GOOD FIGHT” of faith. I once heard, “The reason it is a ‘good fight’ is because we win!” That is true. However, the fact this is a FIGHT is not diminished just because we know the outcome. We still must walk this out.

There will be times of exhilarating joy. There will be times that we confess our ‘joy in the Lord’ but a pure essence of FAITH because we feel no just emotion. Then again, JOY is more than an emotion; it is a state of mind.

Then, there will be agonizing times. In fact, the passage of 1 Timothy 6:12 was written in Greek by the Apostle Paul. The word he uses for FIGHT is the word ‘agon’ from where we get our words AGONY and AGONIZE. I wish I could tell everyone, “Come to Christ and all your problems will be over.” That is not the case. As long as we live in this world there will be problems and tribulations (note the words of Jesus in the passage from John 16:33 above). Christian or non-Christian will face these types of AGONIZING moments in life.

There is a cosmic, supernatural, other-worldly conflict going on between GOOD (God) and EVIL (the demonic realm). There is no avoiding this. We can be innocent victims and be destroyed by the devil, sin, and death. Or, we can align ourselves with God, be a part of His resistance in advancing His kingdom in the lives of men and have LIFE (abundant life – cf. John 10:1), we can be redeemed and restored by the GOSPEL OF CHRIST JESUS (being set free from the devil, sin, and death), and, finally, in the consummation of all things we will reign with HIM forever.

I’ve never been one to roll over and play dead. Therefore, I choose to align myself with the benevolent, loving God of all creation. The fight is still real. In fact, it may be even more real the more enlightened we become in knowing what all is going on behind the scenes of human history (past, present, and future).

Here are some things I want to share with you about this “GOOD FIGHT!”

First, we are BEHIND enemy lines. We are the people who God has planted in the earth for such a time as this. We are CHOSEN! He selected us for this period of mankind’s history. He has equipped for VICTORY. We need not forget that we are in the realm of an adversary, but we have the backing of Heaven.

Second, we are not alone! We have God on our side. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (listed above) is a prayer written by Paul and he includes these words: “The Lord be with you all.” He is with us… ALWAYS. He works in mysterious ways. For example, He may encourage or warn us through dreams. He is amazing in the way He has ALREADY mapped out our victory. In this, too, we are not alone because we have brothers and sisters in Christ in the fight with us.

Thirdly, I want to encourage you in this: After pondering the first two points, please DO NOT FIGHT ALONE. We were made for companionship. We are programmed to do life together. We have to share the good times and encourage one another in the hard times. Isolation is the number one tactic of the devil to get one alone and destroy them. There is SAFETY IN NUMBERS.

In closing, be of good cheer! He has overcome the world. He has overcome your world, my world, and OUR WORLD! JESUS is LORD!
