Touchy-Feely Jesus

Our Wednesday night LIFE-LINKS adults have been hanging out in the gospel of Mark for a little while (okay, for about six months). One of the things that intrigues me about this gospel (the earliest written of the four gospels and the smallest in volume) is how Mark reveals the touchy-feely side of Jesus.
For example, in the first chapter there is a leper who comes to Jesus and asks to be healed. The scriptures reveal how Jesus was moved with compassion, reached out His hand to touch him, and healed the leper. To understand this culturally, we must know that ‘touching’ a leper was a NO-NO. They were considered ‘unclean’ and the disease very dangerous; so much that people were to go to the other side of the street if they saw a leper coming their way.
My beloved friends, Jesus is all about people (saved and unsaved, clean and unclean). I think it would behoove us to learn from the Savior and reach out to touch some folks. One simply can’t be a Christian and NOT be a people person. Maybe that’s a part of some Christian’s thinking that needs transforming. Jesus was a touchy-feely person. Be Christ-like
