Gnats Don’t Nap!

Recently I was driving by Riverbluff High School as the sun was rising. I saw the lights were on at the practice field and it hit me: TWO-A-DAYS. It’s almost FOOTBALL season and two-a-days are exactly what it says: the football team is practicing early in the morning and AGAIN in the evening.
Reflecting on my high school days of football, I chuckled thinking of those hot days and that early morning wet, itchy, sticky grass. Then I thought about those pesky gnats. They’d fly in our eyes, nose, and ears. Those little winged imps are bad enough but multiply it by a thousand with a helmet on and all that sweat. However, we persevered because we were committed to the team.
Life has a lot of annoying, pesky situations. If we focus on the junk we will get discouraged and feel disconnected. That’s when we need to remind ourselves: “We are a part of something BIG.” We persevere because we are committed to our TEAM: team-family, team-church, team-work. Gnats don’t nap. They don’t stop. Neither does committed team members. Some of the stuff we endure today is building character for our victory tomorrow.
