JOY
By Pastor Tim Hodge
Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV) – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
In our Wednesday night Bible study we are engrossed in a study on THE HOLY SPIRIT. I don’t know about anyone else, but this is impacting my life in a profound way. Sometimes we get so caught up in our agenda of ‘life’ and we tend to become self-sufficient. Living self-sufficiently is, in a sense, a commendable thing, but to live in a dimension God wants us to experience we must be God-sufficient.
The fruit of the Spirit is to be manifest in every believer because of the indwelling Holy Spirit. It is His fruit. Our full reliance upon Him is a necessity. The Holy Spirit is the ‘GAME-CHANGER’ in the ministry of the Kingdom to which we all are called.
For example, let’s ponder JOY. Joy is defined as cheerfulness. Joy changes us and it changes the atmosphere around us. Someone recently told me, “You are a joy to be around.” That hit me in a profound way. I immediately thought, “It’s not me. It’s the Holy Spirit.” Truly, that essence comes from the Holy Spirit. Are we to be ‘nice’ to people and want people to desire to be around us? Certainly. Yet, the Holy Spirit’s fruit supercharges that essence in us.
The presence of the Holy Spirit being evidenced through His fruit is a necessity. Joy is an inward and outward fruit. Joy influences an individual and the persons around them. This week, I encourage you to focus on JOY. Ask the Holy Spirit to demonstrate this trait in you and through you.
