AGREEMENT! AKA UNITY!
By Pastor Tim Hodge

Matthew 18:19 (NKJV)
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”

Want to learn something amazing? First, those words were spoken by Jesus so there is going to be some very potent reality to the passage. Second, let’s look at this word ‘agree’. The original language used here was Greek. Check out the particular Greek word Jesus used: “symphōneō — be of one mind; agree.” Does that word sound vaguely familiar to you? Like the word SYMPHONY, right?

In a symphony, we find many different instruments coming together, playing different parts, but making ONE beautiful melodious piece of music come alive. They are playing different parts but playing the SAME PIECE OF MUSIC. This is the beauty of UNITY in diversity. Look at that definition of the Greek word again – “symphōneō — be of one mind; agree.” As in a symphony, Jesus expects His church to come TOGETHER with one mind. We are diverse; male, female, various colors of our skin, different levels of education and intellect. Yet, we are ONE people with ONE heart and ONE mind: to fulfill God’s plan in our local body of believers – our Faith-Family.

I truly, truly believe many of us are getting to this place as a corporate body. I feel it. I sense it. I can see it. Remember what Jesus said above. To THESE people who are of ONE MIND (aka in UNITY), we will find the backing of heaven coming to a whole new reality. Lord, draw us closer and closer together in UNITY that we may truly AGREE with ONE MIND when we pray.
