BE GENTLE

By Pastor Tim Hodge

Philippians 4:5 (NKJV)– “Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.”

I continually had this verse on my mind today. Christians, this is a mandate for us. Here is the definition for ‘gentleness’ as found in the original language of the writer: “gentle; kind; tolerant.” Sometimes this happens very easily. At other times this is a laborious effort. It’s easy to be gentle with people when things are running smooth. What about when those same people annoy, anger, or frustrate us? Then it is a completely different story.

Why are we given this mandate? Take note of the last sentence in that verse above. “The Lord is at hand.” This can be looked at in two ways. First, His literal appearing / return could happen at any moment, so we don’t want to be found having an ugly attitude when He returns. Second, He is always with us, for we are the carriers of His HOLY SPIRIT.

I pray today we bear all this in mind and be a people who are GENTLE to one another (especially when we don’t want to be).
