WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY:
THROWN AWAY KNOWLEDGE EQUALS THROWN AWAY GENERATIONS
By Pastor Tim Hodge
Judges 2:10 (NKJV) “When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel.” There was a time that I sat and asked, “How could this passage in Judges 2:10 be a reality? How could a whole generation live, experience God, and not pass that on to the next generation?” I no longer ask that question. I’m watching it unfold AGAIN before my very eyes in American culture.
Hosea 4:6 (NKJV) “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” The emphatic point of this is not the “lack of knowledge”; rather, it is the “rejection” of knowledge. ‘Reject’ in Latin means “to throw back”. The Hebrew word used here means “to spurn; disappear”. With these definitions in the wording God used, He considers rejected knowledge to be spurned by people and thrown back in His face.
What we do not use we lose. If we are not growing, we are going in reverse. There is no treading water with our level of knowledge in the Word of God. This should cause great concern for every Christian (not just Tim Hodge). If we allow the things of this world to take a higher priority than our level of knowledge in the matters of God then we SPURN (back to the Hebrew definition above) the things of God. If that is the case, then the level of knowledge digresses (disappears). The ramifications are not just falling upon us who disdained the opportunities availed to us, but the following generations reap our bad fruit.
There have been times in my own walk with God where, in certain seasons of life, I’ve gone back and studied certain things and realized how much I had forgotten. Again, what we do not use, we lose. There are times and seasons where we have to go back and knock the dust off the things we “think” we know.
We have many windows of opportunity availed to us where we can grow in the knowledge of God: books, online articles, video on ministry web pages, YouTube ministry sites, even some crazy pastors doing a weekly LIVE video to give doses of spiritual truth, and let’s not forget LOCAL ministry Bible studies. Let’s be honest: WE HAVE NO EXCUSES. We will give an account to God as to what we did with these opportunities. Did we seize the moment, or did we reject them?
Let me end with this: THE LAW OF NATURAL REVERSION. Look at your yard. If you didn’t cut your grass for TEN YEARS, what would your yard look like? Probably like a jungle. It would NATURALLY REVERT BACK to what it was without your efforts. Every area is like that in our lives. If we don’t WORK IT then it will REVERT.
Read that first verse I used at the top one more time (Judges 2:10). You can see this unfolding in America. Will you be part of the solution or part of the problem?
